  2. I am not a U.S. Veteran at this time, but will be by the end of the academic year for which I am requesting financial aid. I was asked to provide a copy of my DD-214, but I will not receive it until I am officially discharged. What should I do?

You cannot claim that you are a veteran until your status has changed with the military and is reflected by your DD-214.  (top)

3. I am a U.S. Veteran, but I no longer have my DD-214. Is there any other form of documentation I can provide?
Your DD-214 is the only acceptable documentation to prove that you qualify as a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. A military ID is not acceptable, because it does not show your discharge status. For a duplicate copy of your DD-214, contact the nearest Veteran's Administration office. (top)
