What do I submit to complete Verification?

There are different types of verification. Some require the student to submit tax information and a statement of who lives in their household. Others are asked to verify their identity. The Department of Education even requests that some students verify their citizenship status. Each of these different types of verification are noted on the FAFSA via codes that are sent to us.

Common forms requested are:

  • Student’s signed tax return (Form 1040)
  • Student’s W-2 form
  • Parent(s)’ signed tax return (Form 1040)
  • Parent(s)’ W-2 form
  • Dependent/Independent Verification Web Form
  • Signed statements
  • Utility bills
  • Leases
  • IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter

  • copies of a student’s government issued ID or even a copy of the student's passport
