Federal Direct Loans

Special Instructions for all loans

Important Notes:
  • 2014 Summer Loans may be accepted immediately after notification of your summer award
  • 2014-2015 Federal Direct Loans will be available for acceptance in mid-July
  • Browser pop-ups must be enabled in order to complete the loan acceptance process
  • Parents must use the direct link below (not UAccess) to accept the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan
  • Students and parents must use their legal name and social security number as it appears on their social security card for all loan documents
  • Guest Access privileges in the UAccess Student Service Center are necessary for parents to monitor the processing and disbursement of Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan(s)
  • Unless otherwise specified, all loans are academic year loans and are divided into two equal disbursements paid to the student, half in the fall term and half in the spring term
  • Increased loan eligibility is available for those students who advance to the sophomore or junior grade level at the end of their fall term. Students must self-identify by contacting our office at the start of the spring term.

Special Note: Time limitations apply to Federal Direct Subsidized Loan Eligibility for First-Time Borrowers on or after July 1, 2013

Important Dates: Federal Direct Loans accepted after these priority deadlines cannot be processed. 

  • Students must accept Federal Direct Loans before the end of the academic term for which they are registered. If students are not registered for the spring term, their federal loans must be accepted and processed before the end of the fall term.
  • August 11, 2014 is the deadline to enroll in Web Refund for direct deposit in order to receive refunds to your bank account for aid disbursed for the Fall 2014 term.
  • November 21, 2014 is the priority date for requesting federal loans for students graduating in December 2014
  • December 12, 2014 is the final date to accept loans for December graduates and students not registered at UA for Spring 2015. Any loans accepted after December 12th are subject to cancellation.
  • January 3, 2015 is the deadline to enroll in Web Refund for direct deposit in order to receive refunds to your bank account for aid disbursed for the Spring 2015 term.
  • May 4, 2015 is the processing deadline for accepting 2014-2015 Federal Direct Loans for students attending Spring 2015.

Loan Acceptance Instructions:

Freshmen and Undergraduate Students

Student loans will be available in July for students who:
  • Have filed the FAFSA and been awarded Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans
  • Meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards for financial aid
  • Do not have outstanding "To Do" items in UAccess
Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans-Click Here
  • Undergraduate degree seeking students must be enrolled in undergraduate level courses to receive federal student loans. (at least 6 units as half-time)
  • Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for federal student loans

Graduate/Professional Students

Student Loans will be available to accept in July for students who:
  • Have filed the FAFSA and been awarded Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans
  • Meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards for financial aid
  • Do not have outstanding "To Do" items in UAccess
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans
  • Graduate degree seeking students enrolled at least half time (5 units) in graduate level courses
  • Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for federal student loan funds*

Parents

Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loans (Credit check is required)


Available early July for parents whose student(s):

  • Have submitted a FAFSA and a Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan has been awarded
  • Meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards for financial aid
  • Do not have outstanding "To Do" items in UAccess

UA will not send Parent PLUS loans  for credit check until July 5th
Parent(s) with adverse credit will be denied. See Protect your credit for adverse credit Information.

How much Parent PLUS Loan can a parent afford?
The Parent PLUS loan decision should be made based on the total years of the student’s academic career. For example: If you borrow $10,000 the first year and the student program is four years in length, you would need to borrow a total of $40,000 for the next four years.

Other Federal, State, University or Private Education Loans

Other Federal, State or University Educational Loans

Other  loans will be available in July for students who:

  • Have been awarded the applicable federal, state or university loans
  • Meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards for financial aid
  • Do not have outstanding "To Do" items in UAcces
     
Federal Perkins Loan - Click Here
  • November 1st deadline to accept your Federal Direct Perkins Loan: Federal Perkins Loan funds are very limited and will be canceled from your financial aid award and offered to another student if you do not accept the loan by November 1st
     

Private Educational Loans 
  • Private Educational Loans are not part of the Federal Direct Student Loan Program. These are credit-based loans a student can apply for when other aid is not sufficient to cover all educational expenses. A co-signer may be required/preferred for undergraduate borrowers.
