2016 - 2017 Terms and Conditions

The terms and conditions below apply to awards initially offered to students for the 2016-2017 academic year. Students who received offers for academic years prior to 2016-2017 must visit the Terms and Conditions pertaining to your original award offer year from the Scholarship selection menu.

Achievement Award 2016-2017

Award Amount $4,000 per academic year

Availability Four consecutive years (eight semesters total) for fall and spring semesters only, based on academic year renewal requirements.

Application Students who meet initial eligibility criteria (review all eligibility criteria online here) will be asked to complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application and the Noncustodial Parent PROFILE (if applicable) for consideration.

Selection The Achievement Award is a need based, renewable, institutional award offered annually to non-Arizona high school graduates and college transfer students. Selections will be made based on a full review of the student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application and Noncustodial Parent PROFILE (if applicable).

  1. Only students who are invited to complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application will be considered for the Achievement Award.
  2. The award amount is non-negotiable and is not increased to match offers from other institutions.
  3. Awards are not offered to students admitted for spring or summer.
  4. Awards are for undergraduate studies only.

Students must meet all eligibility criteria in order to be asked to complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application to be considered for the Achievement Award.

Renewal Criteria Students must meet the following renewal requirements in order to be renewed for the Achievement Award for up to 8 semesters.

  1. Remain a non-Arizona resident for tuition purposes.
  2. Submit a completed FAFSA each year by April 1st.
  3. Demonstrate financial need on the FAFSA each year.

Residency Change This award is given only to students who are non-Arizona residents for tuition purposes. Students who become classified as residents of Arizona at any time during enrollment at UA will no longer qualify for this award. Residency is determined by the Residency Classification Office.

How the award is applied

  1. Once students' To-Do items are completed and the student is enrolled in 12+ UA units, the award will be released to the students' UA Bursar's account as early as ten days before classes begin.
  2. The total award amount is for the academic year, given half each semester. Students who graduate in December are only eligible to receive the fall portion of the award.
  3. This award will be applied to any and all charges charged through UA Bursar's account. A student can receive a financial aid refund for this award if the amount is more than the Bursar’s balance at the time the award credits the Bursar’s account.

Reinstatements

  1. Students with extenuating circumstances preventing him or her from meeting the renewal requirements may submit a General Appeal Form (by priority deadline) for review by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA).

Deferments

  1. Eligibility for this award is a total of eight consecutive semesters, interrupted only by an approved Deferment Request from OSFA.
  2. Students must visit the Office of the Registrar website in order to determine enrollment eligibility upon return to the UA.

 Study Abroad and Student Exchange

  1. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan B may use this award toward their UA tuition charges through the Bursar account.
  2. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan A may not use this award during semester(s) on the program. However, students on a UA National Student Exchange program, who are meeting the renewal criteria, will receive automatic scholarship deferments from OSFA. Students on these programs will be notified by email of their scholarship deferment status prior to the start of the semester they plan to be away.
  3. Students may not use this scholarship if studying abroad or on an International Student Exchange. However, students on a UA-Sponsored Study Abroad program, who are meeting the renewal criteria, will receive automatic scholarship deferments from OSFA. Students on these programs will be notified by email of their scholarship deferment status prior to the start of the semester they plan to be away.
  4. Students on non-UA-sponsored study abroad programs must have an approved Deferment Request from OSFA.

 Withdrawal Policy

The Achievement Award is a renewable, need-based institutional award that is held to the Return of Title IV Policy set forth for federal financial aid.

All-Arizona Academic Team Tuition Award 2016-2017

Award Amount Arizona Resident base tuition of $5,376 per semester. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs.

Availability 10 consecutive undergraduate semesters or 60 undergraduate units, for fall and spring semesters only, based on semester renewal requirements

Selection

The All-Arizona Academic Team Award is a highly competitive undergraduate tuition scholarship offered to a select number of community college transfer students planning to attend one of the three state Universities and pursuing their first Bachelor degree. The Arizona Board of Regents selects students from nominations made by Arizona community colleges.

Students using the award at one of the other State Universities may transfer the award to the UA, but the student must be meeting the renewal criteria of the scholarship. See "Transferring the Scholarship" below.

Eligibility

  1. Verify your lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
  2. The award must be claimed within one year of the offer.
  3. Students must pursuing a first Bachelor's Degree for Undergraduate studies.
  4. Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 UA units each fall and spring semesters.

Renewal Criteria

  1. Maintain at least a 3.25 cumulative UA grade point average each semester.
  2. Complete at least 6 UA units per semester. 
    Qualifying units include: passing units from pass/fail courses, and Grade Replacement Opportunity (GRO) units. Non-Qualifying units include: failed, E grades, incomplete grades, prior academic years, New Start, consortium, correspondence, audit courses, course credit received from testing (i.e. AP, CLEP), transfer units and units* from other institutions while attending the University of Arizona do not count toward the 6 units per semester.

Multiple Awards and Tuition Programs

  1. Students offered multiple awards designated for regular tuition cannot receive more than 100% of the cost of base tuition from the combination of the awards. The base tuition does not include differential tuition, fees, surcharges, room and board, books, or other expenses.
  2. This award cannot be combined with any other tuition based award, including the Transfer Tuition Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa Award, UA Bridge Scholarship, or the Regent's High Honors Endorsement Award (AIMS).
  3. This award will be adjusted if the Qualified Tuition Reduction (QTR, a benefit for faculty and staff) or other tuition reduction programs (or waivers) are utilized. Students offered multiple awards designated for base tuition, cannot receive more than 100% of base tuition.

How this award is applied

  1. This award is automatically applied to a student's UA bursar account approximately ten days before classes once the student is enrolled in 6 units at the University of Arizona, and the student's lawful presence has been verified (see Eligibility above).
  2. This scholarship is applied to UA tuition charged through the UA Bursar's Office. Tuition does not include program or mandatory fees, surcharges, differential tuition, room and board, books, or other expenses.

Reinstatement

  1. Students failing to contact OSFA before semester(s) of eligibility are over, lose the semester(s) of eligibility.
  2. Students with extenuating circumstances beyond their control preventing them from meeting the renewal requirements may submit a Scholarship Appeal Form and supporting documents (by the deadline) for review by the UA Scholarship Appeal Committee.

Transferring the Scholarship

Students transferring from the UA must contact the other State Universities about the transfer process. Students transferring from one of the State Universities to UA must submit the following two items for review prior to the start of the semester in which the student intends to enroll at UA:

  1. Official transcript* from the school the student is transferring from.
  2. Copy of the All-Arizona Academic Team offer letter.

*Units completed at one of the other State Universities while utilizing the All-Arizona Academic Team tuition award will count toward the total 60 units covered by the award.

Deferments

  1. Eligibility for this scholarship is a total of 60 units or 10 semesters, interrupted only by an approved Scholarship Deferment Request from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA).
  2. Students must visit the Office of the Registrar website in order to determine enrollment eligibility upon return to the UA.

 

National Student Exchange & Study Abroad

  1. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan B may use this award toward their UA tuition charges through the Bursar account.
  2. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan A may not use this award during semester(s) on the program. However, students on a UA National Student Exchange program, who are meeting the renewal criteria, will receive automatic scholarship deferments from OSFA. Students on these programs will be notified by email of their scholarship deferment status prior to the start of the semester they plan to be away.
  3. Students may not use this scholarship if studying abroad or on an International Student Exchange. However, students on a UA-Sponsored Study Abroad program, who are meeting the renewal criteria, will receive automatic scholarship deferments from OSFA. Students on these programs will be notified by email of their scholarship deferment status prior to the start of the semester they plan to be away.
  4. Students on non-UA-sponsored study abroad programs must have an approved scholarship Deferment Request from OSFA.

 

Withdrawal Policy

If a student withdraws on or after the first day of classes begin, the student forfeits that semester of scholarship eligibility. This scholarship may be reviewed for reinstatement in future semesters. However, that semester in which your scholarship(s) were lost are still counted against your total eligibility. Scholarships cannot be extended past the 8 semesters of eligibility. If you have other financial aid, you must review the withdrawal policy here.

Arizona Excellence Tuition Award 2016-2017

Award Amounts $5,000 to $17,500 per academic year

 

Availability Four consecutive years (eight semesters total) for fall and spring semesters only, based on academic year renewal requirements. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs.

 

Application A completed (including test scores) UA Admission Application for Fall 2016 serves as the application for this award.

 

Deadline Admitted by May 1, 2016.

 

Selection

The Arizona Excellence Tuition Award is a highly competitive undergraduate tuition scholarship offered annually to a select number of non-Arizona* high school graduates attending college for the first time immediately after high school graduation. Incoming freshmen who are homeschooled will be evaluated for merit aid based on portfolio/course work and ACT or SAT test scores submitted by the admission deadline.

  1. Award offers and values are based on high school merits.
  2. Test scores (SAT and/or ACT) are required and must be received by May 1, 2016.
  3. Students selected for this scholarship will receive an offer letter once all completed admissions application materials have been submitted before the deadline.
  4. Offers are non-negotiable and are not increased to match offers from other institutions.
  5. Awards are not offered to students admitted for spring or summer.
  6. Awards are for undergraduate studies only.

 

Eligibility

  1. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Be classified as a non-Arizona* resident for tuition purposes.
  3. Students must be pursuing a first Bachelor's Degree for Undergraduate studies.
  4. Verify your lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
    Semesters without lawful presence verified will be lost and counted against the scholarship's total eight semesters.
  5. The award must be used beginning Fall 2016 semester.

Renewal Criteria

Students must meet the renewal requirements by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring and summer semesters) in order to receive the scholarship for the next academic year.

  1. GPA: 3.00 cumulative University of Arizona grade point average. Note that your UA GPA is not rounded or recalculated for scholarship purposes.
  2. Units:
    30 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 1st award year to receive Year 2 of award 
    60 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 2nd award year to receive Year 3 of award 
    90 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 3rd award year to receive Year 4 of award 
    Example: An incoming student that completes 3 UA units the summer prior to the first fall semester using the scholarship, 15 UA units during the 1st award semester (fall) and 12 UA units during the 2nd award semester (spring) of freshman year for a total of 30 UA units (or vice versa), and has maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA is eligible for scholarship renewal.
    Qualifying units within the academic year include: UA winter and summer courses, passing units from pass/fail courses, Grade Replacement Opportunity (GRO) units, prior academic year units and New Start courses.
    Non-Qualifying units include: failed, E grade, incomplete or I grades, consortium, Outreach College courses, correspondence, audit, course credit received from testing (including AP and CLEP credits) transfer units and units from other institutions.
  3. Students not meeting renewal criteria by the end of the spring semester see Reinstatement section below.

 

Multiple Awards and Tuition Programs

  1. The National Scholars Award may be combined with the Arizona Excellence Award.
  2. This award cannot be combined with ROTC tuition awards, the GI Bill, and some departmental tuition awards depending on type and amount.
  3. This award cannot be combined with the Transfer Tuition Award or the Phi Theta Kappa Award.
  4. Students in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program are not eligible for this award.
  5. This award will be adjusted if the Qualified Tuition Reduction (QTR, a benefit for faculty and staff) or other tuition reduction programs (or waivers) are utilized. Students offered multiple awards designated for base tuition, cannot receive more than 100% of base tuition.

*Residency Change

This merit award was offered based on residency during the student's freshman year. If during the eight semesters of eligibility the student's residency changes and the student still qualifies for renewal, the student will be reevaluated based on the merit review of the respective freshman cohort for a potential resident merit award. Students should contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid once residency changes for a reevaluation.

How the award is applied

  1. The award will disburse to a student's UA bursar account approximately ten days before classes begin, once the student's lawful presence has been verified and the student is enrolled full-time (12+ units per term) at UA. Students are strongly encouraged to complete enough UA units each academic year to remain on track to graduate within four years, the maximum period this award covers.
  2. This scholarship is applied to UA undergraduate tuition charged through the UA Bursar's Office. Tuition does not include program or mandatory fees, surcharges, differential tuition, room and board, books or other expenses. If your program does not charge tuition through the Bursar Account, you are ineligible to use this award toward your tuition charges. 
  3. The total award amount is for the academic year which is evenly split between the fall and spring semesters. Students who graduate in December are not eligible to receive the full academic year amount for one semester.

Reinstatement

  1. Students failing to meet the renewal criteria by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters) may become eligible for reinstatement if they raise their cumulative GPA to the minimum 3.00 and make up missing UA units. Mid-year reinstatements require students to be on track with an average of 15 UA units completed per fall and spring semesters of award eligibility.
    - Scholarships are only eligible for reinstatement for four (4) consecutive years (eight (8) semesters total).
    - Students must contact OSFA within 30 calendar days from the first day of class for the semester in which they are requesting reinstatement.
  2. Students with extenuating circumstances preventing them from meeting the renewal requirements by the conclusion of the academic year may submit a Scholarship Appeal Form and supporting documents (by the deadline) for review by the UA Scholarship Appeals Committee.

 

Deferments

  1. Eligibility for this tuition award is a total of eight consecutive semesters, interrupted only by an approved Scholarship Deferment Request form OSFA.

Flinn Semi-Finalist 2016-2017

Award Amounts $3,000 per academic year, Spirit of Excellence Scholarship

Availability Four consecutive years (eight semesters total) for fall and spring semesters only, based on academic year renewal requirements. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs.

Deadline Admitted by May 1, 2016.

Selection

The Spirit of Excellence is a cash scholarship and given to Flinn Semi-Finalist scholars. This award is stackable if the student achieves a Designated Flinn Scholar status.

Eligibility

  1. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Be classified as an Arizona* resident for tuition purposes.
  3. Students must be pursuing a first Bachelor's Degree for Undergraduate studies.
  4. Verify your lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
    Semesters without lawful presence verified will be lost and counted against the scholarship's total eight semesters.
  5. The award must be used beginning Fall 2016 semester.

Renewal Criteria

Students must meet the renewal requirements by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring and summer semesters) in order to receive the scholarship for the next academic year.

Foster Care to Success Tuition Award 2016-2017

The Foster Care Success Tuition award was established as a pilot program to fund foster care students. The award will fund the full amount of Arizona Resident undergraduate base tuition, mandatory student and course fees, and college/program differential tuition. The value of the Foster Care Success Tuition Award will be reduced by other federal grant aid, scholarships, public grants, and any other public aid received. The award will not be reduced by the amount of federal grant received by the student from the Department of Economic Security (DES) under the Arizona Education and Training Voucher (ETV) Program. The pilot program is estimated to continue for eligible students who are admitted to UA through December 31, 2019 unless otherwise notified of continuation. 

Award Amount  The Foster Care to Success Tuition Award will fund the full amount of the Arizona Resident Undergraduate base tuition, college/program differential tuition, mandatory and course related fees that are not covered by any other form of federal grant aid (including but not limited to the Federal Pell Grant), scholarships, public grants, and any other public aid received. In order to estimate tuition and fees, use the Bursar's Office tuition and fees calculator online by clicking here.

Availability  Students will continue to receive the tuition scholarships as long as renewal criteria (see below) are met and until the student receives a Baccalaureate Degree, obtains 144 credit hours, or until the student reaches 23 years of age, whichever comes first. This award can be used during the fall, spring, or summer semesters at the UA. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs.

Application Students must initially apply and be certified through the Foster Care to Success (FC2S) portal. The online portal is also the application for the Arizona Education and Training Voucher (ETV) Program. Log on by clicking here.

Deadline Students must submit the application online via the FC2S portal by clicking here prior to the first day of classes for their initial UA admission term. Afterward, students will be renewed for the next academic year based on renewal criteria (see below) once a student's FAFSA is on file for the next academic year. The FAFSA priority filing date is March 1st each year. 

Eligibility

  1. Must be accepted to the UA by meeting regular admission requirements.
  2. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Be an Arizona resident for tuition purposes.
  4. Verify lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
  5. Must have been in foster care when the student was 16 years of age OR adopted from foster care and the adoption was finalized after the person was 16 years of age.
  6. Has total personal assets according to the FAFSA that are worth less than $10,000 (assets do NOT include scholarships or grants).
  7. Is under 21 years of age when the tuition scholarship is first awarded.
  8. Must complete a FAFSA each academic year (priority filing date is March 1st).
  9. Must be verified by the Arizona DES Division of Children, Youth and Families (this verification is done after the student applies through the online portal referenced above).

Renewal Criteria

  1. Students must continue to meet all initial eligibility requirements.
  2. Submit a FAFSA each academic year (priority filing date is March 1st).
  3. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Standards each semester. Students who fail to meet SAP Standards will be notified of an option to submit a SAP Appeal to regain financial aid eligibility for the following semester.   4. Students must complete 30 hours of volunteer service each year after the first year the student receives the tuition scholarship.
  5. Students may receive the award based on meeting renewal criteria until one of the following conditions are met: 144 credit hours are earned, a Baccalaureate Degree is earned, or until the student reaches 23 years of age.

Multiple Awards and Tuition Programs

  1. This value of the Foster Care to Success Tuition Award amount can also include any of the following tuition awards if selected: the National Scholar Award, Wildcat Excellence Tuition Award, Regent's High Honors Endorsement (AIMS) Award, Transfer Tuition Scholarship, or the Phi Theta Kappa Tuition Award.

How the award is applied

  1. The Foster Care to Success Tuition Award will disburse to the student's UA Bursar account approximately ten days before classes begin, once the student's lawful presence has been verified and the student is enrolled. Students may check "My Financial Aid Status" on the UAccess Student Center for each award requirement. 
  2. The total award amount is for the academic year, split between the fall and spring semesters based on semester tuition and fee charges. Students who graduate in December are not eligible to receive the full academic year amount for one semester.

International Tuition Award 2016-2017

Award Amounts $2,000-$10,000 per academic year

Eligibility

  1. A limited number of merit-based scholarships will be awarded to students based upon their application for admission who demonstrate significant international experience during high school and who exhibit outstanding academic records.
  2. Must verify your lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
    Semesters without lawful presence verified will be lost and counted against the scholarship's total eight semesters.
  3. Awards are for undergraduate studies only. Award amounts for continuing students remain the same as initial offer.

Availability based on academic year renewal requirements; for fall and spring semesters only. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs or for Study Abroad program use.

  • Freshman - Four consecutive years (8 semesters total)
  • Transfer Students - Two consecutive years (4 semesters total)

Selection The International Tuition Award is a highly competitive undergraduate tuition scholarship offered annually to a select number of international students attending the UA.

  1. Students selected for this scholarship will receive an email. 
  2. Offers are non-negotiable and are not increased to match offers from other institutions.
  3. The award must be used the semester for which it was first offered.
  4. Accept your award by accepting your UA admission and continuing the next steps to register for Orientation.
  5. Awards are not offered for any summer term.

Renewal Criteria

Students must meet the renewal requirements by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring and summer semesters) in order to receive the scholarship for the next academic year.

  1. GPA: 3.00 cumulative University of Arizona grade point average. Note that your UA GPA is not rounded or recalculated for scholarship purposes.
  2. Units:
    30 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 1st award year to receive Year 2 of award 
    60 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 2nd award year to receive Year 3 of award 
    90 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 3rd award year to receive Year 4 of award 
    Example: An incoming student that completes 3 UA units the summer prior to the first fall semester using the scholarship, 15 UA units during the 1st award semester (fall) and 12 UA units during the 2nd award semester (spring) of freshman year for a total of 30 UA units (summer + fall + spring), and has maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA is eligible for scholarship renewal.
    Qualifying units within the academic year include: UA winter and summer courses, passing units from pass/fail courses, Grade Replacement Opportunity (GRO) units, prior academic year units and New Start courses.
    Non-Qualifying units include: failed, E grade, incomplete or I grades, consortium, Outreach College courses, correspondence, audit, course credit received from testing (including AP and CLEP credits) transfer units and units from other institutions.

  1. This award covers a portion of non-resident tuition only. Tuition does not include fees, surcharges, room and board, books or other expenses.

  3. This scholarship may be reduced each year the Qualified Tuition Reduction (QTR) (a benefit for faculty and staff) is utilized or other tuition reduction programs are utilized.
  4. Students in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program are not eligible for this award.

How the award is applied

  1. The award will disburse to a student's UA bursar account approximately ten days before classes begin, once the student's lawful presence has been verified and the student is enrolled full-time (12+ units per term) at UA. Students are strongly encouraged to complete enough UA units each academic year to remain on track to graduate within four years, the maximum period the freshman award covers.
  2. This scholarship is applied to UA undergraduate tuition charged through the UA Bursar's Office. Tuition does not include program or mandatory fees, surcharges, differential tuition, room and board, books or other expenses. If your program does not charge tuition through the Bursar Account, you are ineligible to use this award toward your tuition charges. 
  3. The total award amount is for the academic year which is evenly split between the fall and spring semesters. Students who graduate in December are not eligible to receive the full academic year amount for one semester.

Reinstatement

  1. Students failing to meet the renewal criteria by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters) may become eligible for reinstatement if they raise their cumulative GPA to the minimum 3.00 and make up missing UA units. Mid-year reinstatements require students to be on track with an average of 15 UA units completed per fall and spring semesters of award eligibility.
    - Scholarships are only eligible for reinstatement for the award availability period initially offered (4 academic years for freshmen, or 2 academic years for transfer students).
    - Students must contact OSFA within 30 calendar days from the first day of class for the semester in which they are requesting reinstatement.
  2. Students with extenuating circumstances preventing them from meeting the renewal requirements by the conclusion of the academic year may submit a Scholarship Appeal Form and supporting documents (by the deadline) for review by the UA Scholarship Appeals Committee.

 

Deferments

  1. Eligibility for this tuition award is a total of eight consecutive semesters, interrupted only by an approved Scholarship Deferment Request form from OSFA.
  2. Students must visit the Office of the Registrar website in order to determine enrollment eligibility upon return to the UA.

 

National Student Exchange & Study Abroad

  1. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan B may use this award toward their UA tuition charges through the Bursar account.
  2. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan A may not use this award during semester(s) on the program. However, students on a UA National Student Exchange program, who are meeting the renewal criteria, will receive automatic scholarship deferments from OSFA. Students on these programs will be notified by email of their scholarship deferment status prior to the start of the semester they plan to be away.
  3. Students may not use this scholarship if studying abroad or on an International Student Exchange. However, students on a UA-Sponsored Study Abroad program, who are meeting the renewal criteria, will receive automatic scholarship deferments from OSFA. Students on these programs will be notified by email of their scholarship deferment status prior to the start of the semester they plan to be away.
  4. Students on non-UA-sponsored study abroad programs must have an approved scholarship Deferment Request from OSFA.

This Undergraduate tuition award is offered to the National Merit Semi-Finalists who qualify by taking the Preliminary SATs (PSATs) in high school.

  2. Students who become National Merit Finalists will be awarded the NMF Scholar award which supersedes and replaces this award.
  3. Students must be pursuing a first Bachelor's Degree for Undergraduate studies.
  4. Must verify your lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
    Semesters without lawful presence verified will be lost and counted against the scholarship's total 8 semesters.
  5. The award must be used beginning Fall 2016 semester, and the student must attend the UA the semester immediately after high school graduation.

Students should contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid once residency changes for a reevaluation.

Award Amount  The UA National Merit Scholarship award includes the college-sponsored, corporate-sponsored, or National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC)-sponsored awards. Students must respond to NMSC requests to accept these awards. 

  1. Arizona National Scholars: $18,000 per academic year + one-time $1,500 Study Abroad Award for UA Study Abroad program (described below).
  2. Non-Arizona National Scholars:  the value of the original Arizona Excellence Tuition Award + $5,000 National Scholar Award +one-time $1,500 Study Abroad Award for UA Study Abroad program. See "Arizona Excellence Tuition Award" for UA merit review and offer details.

Availability Four consecutive years (8 semesters total) for fall and spring semesters only; based on academic year renewal requirements. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs. Students who complete their undergraduate degree in less than 8 consecutive semesters may use the remaining semester(s) toward graduate tuition (only) at UA in the semester immediately following graduation. The $1,500 National Scholar Study Abroad Award is a one-time award for an Undergraduate UA-Sponsored Study Abroad program. See Study Abroad & Student Exchange section below.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship 2016-2017

The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is a highly competitive tuition scholarship offered to the very top Community College Transfer students pursuing their first bachelor's degree who have been a verified Phi Theta Kappa member in good standing for at least one year by the time of submission of the UA admission application. Offers will be based on funds available and the strength of the applicant pool. Other minimum requirements for consideration include the following, but they do not guarantee an offer:

  1. Have a minimum 3.50 recalculated cumulative college grade point average.
  2. Completed a minimum of 36 transferable units at the time of UA admission application.
  3. Member in good standing with Phi Theta Kappa.

This merit award was offered based on residency during the student's incoming year. If during the eight semesters of eligibility the student's residency changes and the student still qualifies for renewal, the student will be reevaluated based on the merit review of the respective incoming cohort for a potential resident merit award. Students should contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid once residency changes for a reevaluation.

How the award is applied

  1. The award will disburse to a student's UA bursar account approximately ten days before classes begin, once the student's lawful presence has been verified and the student is enrolled full-time (12+ units per term) at UA. Students are strongly encouraged to complete enough UA units each academic year to remain on track to graduate within four semesters, the maximum period this award covers.
  2. This scholarship is applied to UA undergraduate tuition charged through the UA Bursar's Office. Tuition does not include program or mandatory fees, surcharges, differential tuition, room and board, books or other expenses. If your program does not charge tuition through the Bursar Account, you are ineligible to use this award toward your tuition charges. 
  3. The total award amount is for the academic year which is evenly split between the fall and spring semesters. Students who graduate in December are not eligible to receive the full academic year amount for one semester.

Reinstatement

  1. Students failing to meet the renewal criteria by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters) may become eligible for reinstatement if they raise their cumulative GPA to the minimum 3.00 and make up missing UA units. Mid-year reinstatements require students to be on track with an average of 15 UA units completed per fall and spring semesters of award eligibility.
    - Scholarships are only eligible for reinstatement for two (2) consecutive years (four (4) semesters total).
    - Students must contact OSFA within 30 calendar days from the first day of class for the semester in which they are requesting reinstatement.

Selection

The Raise Me Wildcat Tuition Scholarship is an early outreach engagement pilot program, for a select number of Arizona high schools, encouraging high school academic improvement to assist students in preparing for college. Students enrolled in a participating high school will be notified of this opportunity.

  1. Award offers and values are based on high school merits.
  2. Students selected for this scholarship will receive an offer letter once all completed admissions application materials have been submitted before the deadline.
  3. Offers are non-negotiable and are not increased to match offers from other institutions.
  4. Awards are not offered to students admitted for spring or summer.
  5. Awards are for undergraduate studies only.

Eligibility

  1. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Be classified as an Arizona* resident for tuition purposes.
  3. Students must be pursuing a first Bachelor's Degree for Undergraduate studies.

Regents High Honors Endorsement Award (AIMS) 2016-2017

Award Amount 25% of Arizona Resident base tuition. 2016-2017 tuition will be determined by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) in Spring 2016.  Award will not increase with future annual tuition increases. Amounts for continuing students will remain the same as initial offer.

    Non-Arizona Residents: Have a minimum 3.50 recalculated cumulative college grade point average.
  2. Completed minimum of 36 transferable units, and no more than 72 units, at the time of UA admission application from a community college.

UA Bridge Tuition Scholarship 2016-2017

Award Amounts $2,000 Arizona Resident per academic year
 

Availability two consecutive years (four semesters total) for fall and spring semesters only, based on academic year renewal requirements. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs.

 

Application A completed UA Transfer Admission Application for Fall 2016, or Spring 2017 serves as the application for this award.

 

Deadline Admitted by March 1, 2016 for Fall 2016.

 

Selection

The UA Bridge Tuition Scholarship is a competitive undergraduate tuition scholarship offered to a select number of transfer students currently in the UA Bridge Program who are pursuing their first bachelor's degree.

  1. Have a minimum 3.00 recalculated cumulative college grade point average
  2. Completed minimum of 36 transferable units, and no more than 72 units, at the time of UA admission application from a community college.

Eligibility

  1. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Be an Arizona resident for tuition purposes.
  3. Students must pursuing a first Bachelor's Degree for Undergraduate studies.
  4. Verify your lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
    Semesters without lawful presence verified will be lost and counted against the scholarship's total four semesters.
  5. The award must be used beginning the initial semester in which it is offered.

 

Renewal Criteria

Students must meet the renewal requirements by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring and summer semesters) in order to receive the scholarship for the next academic year.

  1. GPA: 3.00 cumulative University of Arizona grade point average. Note that your UA GPA is not rounded or recalculated for scholarship purposes.
  2. Units:
    Spring semester admitted students: 15 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 1st semester to receive the following academic year.
    30 cumulative UA units completed by the end of the 1st award year to receive Year 2 of award 
    Example: An incoming student that completes 3 UA units the summer prior to the first fall semester using the scholarship, 15 UA units during the 1st award semester (fall) and 12 UA units during the 2nd award semester (spring) of freshman year for a total of 30 UA units (or vice versa), and has maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA is eligible for scholarship renewal.
    Qualifying units within the academic year include: UA winter and summer courses, passing units from pass/fail courses, Grade Replacement Opportunity (GRO) units, prior academic year units and New Start courses.
    Non-Qualifying units include: failed, E grade, incomplete or I grades, consortium, Outreach College courses, correspondence, audit, course credit received from testing (including AP and CLEP credits) transfer units and units from other institutions.
  3. Students not meeting renewal criteria by the end of the spring semester see Reinstatement section below.

Multiple Awards and Tuition Programs

  1. This award cannot be combined with any other tuition award including the Regent's High Honors Endorsement Award (AIMS),the All-Arizona Academic Team Tuition Award, the Transfer Tuition Scholarship, the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, the Arizona Excellence Tuition Award, or the Wildcat Excellence Tuition Award.
  2. This award cannot be combined with ROTC tuition awards, the GI Bill, and some departmental tuition awards depending on type and amount.
  3. Students in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program are not eligible for this award.
  4. This award will be adjusted if the Qualified Tuition Reduction (QTR, a benefit for faculty and staff) or other tuition reduction programs (or waivers) are utilized. Students offered multiple awards designated for base tuition, cannot receive more than 100% of base tuition.


*Residency Change

This merit award was offered based on residency during the student's freshman year. If during the eight semesters of eligibility the student's residency changes and the student still qualifies for renewal, the student will be reevaluated based on the merit review of the respective freshman cohort for a potential resident merit award. Students should contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid once residency changes for a reevaluation.

How the award is applied

  1. The award will disburse to a student's UA bursar account approximately ten days before classes begin, once the student's lawful presence has been verified and the student is enrolled full-time (12+ units per term) at UA. Students are strongly encouraged to complete enough UA units each academic year to remain on track to graduate within four years, the maximum period this award covers.
  2. This scholarship is applied to UA undergraduate tuition charged through the UA Bursar's Office. Tuition does not include program or mandatory fees, surcharges, differential tuition, room and board, books or other expenses. If your program does not charge tuition through the Bursar Account, you are ineligible to use this award toward your tuition charges. 
  3. The total award amount is for the academic year which is evenly split between the fall and spring semesters. Students who graduate in December are not eligible to receive the full academic year amount for one semester.

Reinstatement

  1. Students failing to meet the renewal criteria by the conclusion of the academic year (fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters) may become eligible for reinstatement if they raise their cumulative GPA to the minimum 3.00 and make up missing UA units. Mid-year reinstatements require students to be on track with an average of 15 UA units completed per fall and spring semesters of award eligibility.
    - Scholarships are only eligible for reinstatement for two (2) consecutive years (four (4) semesters total).
    - Students must contact OSFA within 30 calendar days from the first day of class for the semester in which they are requesting reinstatement.
  2. Students with extenuating circumstances preventing them from meeting the renewal requirements by the conclusion of the academic year may submit a Scholarship Appeal Form and supporting documents (by the deadline) for review by the UA Scholarship Appeals Committee.

 

Deferments

  1. Eligibility for this tuition award is a total of eight consecutive semesters, interrupted only by an approved Scholarship Deferment Request form OSFA.
  2. Students must visit the Office of the Registrar website in order to determine enrollment eligibility upon return to the UA.

 

National Student Exchange & Study Abroad

  1. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan B may use this award toward their UA tuition charges through the Bursar account.
  2. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who select Plan A may not use this award during semester(s) on the program. However, students on a UA National Student Exchange program, who are meeting the renewal criteria, will receive automatic scholarship deferments from OSFA. Students on these programs will be notified by email of their scholarship deferment status prior to the start of the semester they plan to be away.

Wildcat Excellence Tuition Award 2016-2017

Award Amounts $1,500 to $11,000 per academic year

Availability Four consecutive years (eight semesters total) for fall and spring semesters only, based on academic year renewal requirements. This award is not available for use in UA Online programs.

Application A completed (including test scores) UA Admission Application for Fall 2016 serves as the application for this award.

Deadline Admitted by May 1, 2016.

Selection

The Wildcat Excellence Award is a highly competitive undergraduate tuition scholarship offered annually to a select number of Arizona* resident high school graduates attending college for the first time immediately after high school graduation. Incoming freshmen who are homeschooled will be evaluated for merit aid based on portfolio/course work and ACT or SAT test scores submitted by the admission deadline.

  1. Award offers and values are based on high school merits.
  2. Test scores (SAT and/or ACT) are required and must be received by May 1, 2016.
  3. Students selected for this scholarship will receive an offer letter once all completed admissions application materials have been submitted before the deadline.
  4. Offers are non-negotiable and are not increased to match offers from other institutions.
  5. Awards are not offered to students admitted for spring or summer.
  6. Awards are for undergraduate studies only.

Eligibility
