The UA College of Education is an upper-division college, which offers professional preparation programs for prospective educators. The college is actively involved in several tutoring and mentoring programs in partnership with school districts in the Tucson area. These include the ARAC programs and the WordCats/MathCats Mentoring Program. These programs offer students who intend to enter the teaching profession the opportunity to work with children in a school setting prior to and while they are in the professional preparation program.

The College encourages all students who are considering the teaching profession to gain experience working with children prior to admission to the College of Education; it is one of the criteria for admission to the Initial Teacher Preparation Program. The ARAC program is one of the ways to fulfill this requirement; however, this program is not solely for prospective educators. Any student who is interested in working with children is encouraged to apply.
