Other Institutional Grants

Institutional Grant awards come directly from the University of Arizona. Like Federal Grants, Institutional Grants are free money – money that does not have to be repaid. 

The University Grant award is an institutional grant designed to assist qualifying, first time, undergraduate, Arizona Resident students to help pay for the cost of tuition and other educational expenses at the University of Arizona. 

Eligibility

  • Must be an Arizona Resident for tuition purposes
  • Must be admitted to and enroll full-time (12+ units per fall and spring semester) in Arizona Main Campus only
  • Must be seeking first Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must demonstrate certain financial need, as calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Application

U.S. Citizens and Eligible Non-Citizens:

  • Completed 2026-2027 FAFSA form, submitted by the University of Arizona’s Priority FAFSA Filing Date as noted below:
    • April 1st - Students admitted for the Summer/Fall 2026 semester
    • November 1st - Students beginning enrollment in the Spring 2027 semester
    • March 1st - Continuing Arizona students
  • Completed University of Arizona Admission Application (for newly admitted students)
    • Completed by the priority FAFSA Filing Dates as noted above. Please note, a completed application means all necessary information for an admissions decision is on file. For full details regarding application dates and deadlines click here.

Proposition 308-Eligible Students:

  • Completed University of Arizona Admission Application (for newly admitted students)
    • Completed by the priority FAFSA Filing Dates as noted above
  • Completed CSS Profile
    • The CSS Profile provides a pathway, for those who are not eligible to complete the FAFSA, to be reviewed for nonfederal institutional aid
    • After being admitted, students meeting the criteria as a qualifying non-citizen student eligible for in-state tuition through Proposition 308 should monitor their Catmail for an Invitation to Complete the CSS Profile

Renewal

The University Grant award can be awarded for up to 8 consecutive semesters for first-year students and 4 consecutive semesters for transfer/readmit students, based upon the general renewal eligibility criteria listed below.

  • Completed FAFSA every year by the March 1st FAFSA Filing Date
  • Meet minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) guidelines
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 University of Arizona credits for each semester (fall & spring)
  • Qualifying non-citizen students eligible for in-state tuition through Proposition 308 must complete the CSS Profile each year in lieu of the FAFSA 

Note on Enrollment:

The University Grant will not be released to students’ Bursar billing account if they are not enrolled in at least 12 Arizona units (full-time).

  • Students who have not already received a disbursement and are not enrolled in 12+ units by the first Pell Recalculation Date of each fall and spring semester will have their University Grant for the corresponding semester canceled. The canceled portion of this grant cannot be reinstated thereafter.

Additional Information:

  • Eligibility for this award is reviewed each academic year and may change based on FAFSA-determined need and availability of funds.
  • This award is designated to be used in the Fall and Spring semesters only. Summer University Grant eligibility is determined differently than University Grant awards offered for the fall and spring semesters.
  • This grant is not available to students enrolled in Arizona Online or Near You Network campus.
  • For students who first received this grant beginning in 2025-2026 or earlier:
    • The University Grant award cannot be combined with Arizona Promise Grant, Arizona Native Scholars Grant or Arizona Assurance Grant.
    • Students enrolled in Near You Network may continue to receive this grant for the maximum terms allowed based on your first year, transfer or readmit status. 

Withdrawal Policy

The Achievement Award is a need-based institutional award that is held to the Return of Title IV Policy set forth for federal financial aid.

The Arizona Assurance Grant  (AZA) at the University of Arizona is a need-based award for low-income students in the state of Arizona. The funding is designed to assist students in attaining a bachelor’s degree. 

Qualifying, incoming Fall 2026 First Year Arizona Resident admits can apply for Arizona Assurance funding through Scholarship Universe when the application becomes available. 

Renewal Criteria for continued Arizona Assurance funding

  • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by March 1st of every year
  • Remain eligible for the Federal Pell Grant as determined by the FAFSA
  • Remain a resident of the state of Arizona for tuition purposes
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards
  • Remain enrolled in Main Campus (Arizona Online and Distance campus students are not eligible for Arizona Assurance Funding)
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 University of Arizona units per semester

The Achievement Award is an institutional need-based grant designed to assist qualifying, first time and transfer, undergraduate, main campus, Non-Arizona Resident students to help pay for the cost of tuition and educational expenses at the University of Arizona. Students must also demonstrate certain financial need, as calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Achievement Award Funding & Renewal

The Achievement Award Grant provides up to $3,000 per academic year and is renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters for First Year admits and up to four consecutive semesters for Transfer admits, granted the student meets all renewal criteria stated below.

  • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year
  • Display financial need as calculated by the FAFSA
  • Meet minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) guidelines
  • Remain a non-Arizona resident for tuition purposes
  • Continuous, consecutive, full-time enrollment (12+ University of Arizona units) on University of Arizona Main Campus each fall and spring semester

Achievement Award funding will not be released to students enrolled in less than 12 Arizona units (full-time).

Campus Changes 

Students must remain enrolled at the University of Arizona Main Campus to receive Achievement Award funding. If a student requests a campus change from the Main Campus to another campus (Arizona Online, Distance, etc.), their Achievement Award will be canceled.
