FAQ - I do not have a relationship with my required FAFSA contributor, but they provide the majority of my financial support, what are my options?

Question
I do not have a relationship with my required FAFSA contributor, but they provide the majority of my financial support, what are my options?
Answer

While not having a relationship with your parent is not considered an unusual circumstance in itself, if you have qualifying circumstances, you may be able to submit a Dependency Override. Please review the Dependency Override Appeal section of our appeals webpage to learn more. A parent refusing to file the FAFSA or ending financial support isn’t considered an unusual circumstance in itself. In these cases, a student can only qualify for a Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. Please contact our office to discuss further.
