Other Institutional Grants

Institutional Grant awards come directly from the University of Arizona. Like Federal Grants, Institutional Grants are free money – money that does not have to be repaid. 

University Grant

The University Grant award is an institutional grant designed to assist qualifying, first time, undergraduate, Arizona Resident students to help pay for the cost of tuition at the University of Arizona. Students must also demonstrate certain financial need, as calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Application 

U.S. Citizens:

  • The FAFSA must be completed each year by the University of Arizona’s Priority FAFSA Filing Date. 
    • For students beginning enrollment in the Summer/Fall 2024 semester: May 1st 
    • For continuing Arizona students: May 1st 
    • For students beginning enrollment in the spring semester: November 1st
  • In addition to the FAFSA, newly admitted students (first-year, transfer and readmits) must also submit a completed University of Arizona (Arizona) Admission Application for the fall semester by the University of Arizona’s priority FAFSA filing deadline above. Please note, a completed application means all necessary information for an admissions decision are on file. DACA/Dreamer students:

  • Newly admitted students (first-year, transfer and readmits) must also submit a completed University of Arizona (Arizona) Admission Application for the fall semester by May 1st for continuing Arizona students and May 1st for Summer/Fall 2024 First Year, Transfer and Readmits. For students beginning enrollment in the spring semester: November 1st. Please note, a completed application means all necessary information for an admissions decision is on file.   • After being admitted, monitor your Catmail for an Invitation to Complete the CSS Profile. The CSS Profile provides a pathway, for those who are not eligible to complete the FAFSA, to be reviewed for nonfederal institutional aid. After you apply for admission, our office will reach out via email with an invitation to complete the CSS Profile. Invitations are sent out weekly to qualifying students. 

Renewal

The University Grant award can be awarded for up to 8 consecutive semesters for first year students and 4 consecutive semesters for transfer students, based upon the general renewal eligibility criteria listed below.

  • Complete your FAFSA every year by the FAFSA Priority Submission Date. That date is May 1st for the Fall 2024/2025 academic year. This date will change for future years. 
  • Meet minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) guidelines, available https://financialaid.arizona.edu/policies/sap.
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 University of Arizona credits for each semester (fall & spring)

Note on Enrollment:

The University Grant will not release to students not enrolled in at least 12 Arizona units (full-time).

  • Students who have not already received a disbursement and not enrolled full-time by the first Fall  Pell Recalculation Date  will have their fall University Grant award canceled automatically. The Fall portion of this grant cannot be reinstated thereafter.
  • Spring enrollment will be evaluated on the first Spring Pell Recalculation Date. If the spring portion of the University Grant award has not already disbursed to the student and the student is not enrolled in at least 12 Arizona units at that time, the spring portion of the University Grant award will be canceled automatically and cannot be reinstated. 

If you make enrollment changes after receiving University Grant funds and receive a tuition refund as a result of the enrollment change, University Grant funds may be reduced or canceled.

If you withdraw from the University, the University Grant will be reduced during the Return to Title IV calculation just like other institutional aid.  Please also see the Bursars webpage for more information on refunds and withdrawals.

Additional Information:

  • Eligibility for this award is reviewed each academic year. 
  • The University Grant award cannot be combined with Arizona Promise Grant, Arizona Native Scholars Grant, or the Pell Pledge Grant. 
  • Effective Fall 2023, University Grant cannot be combined with Arizona Assurance Grant. 
  • This award is designated to be used in the Fall and Spring semesters only.
